Day 10 Queenstown-Te Anau-Milford Sound
We left Queenstown at 6:30 to make sure we would have time to drop our luggage in Te Anau and make our Milford Sound cruise. John at the Chalet-Queenstown had packed us a breakfast of fruit, 2 sandwiches each, juice and cookies. There was enough for both breakfast and lunch. We have been well accommodated everywhere we've been, but no place better than the Chalet. It was cold when we left, 3 degrees C and damp. We bundled up including rain gear and headed out. It had snowed during the night in The Remarkables, a mountain range just outside of Q-town. We were concerned we might find some frost on the road as we worked our way up the hill but thankfully did not. We stopped to have a Latte at cool cafe in the middle of nowhere and to thaw our fingers. The sun came out before we reached Te Anau and it warmed up enough for us to be comfortable. We stopped and dropped our gear at Cat's Whiskers B&B where we were booked for the night. Our hostess Anne Marie let got us settled and told us what to watch for on our ride to Milford Sound.

The ride to the sound and back would have been enough scenic beauty for any day, it was truly one of our most scenic rides. But that was not the best of it. The cruise on the sound, which is not really a sound but a fiord , was spectacular. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

This kind of majestic beauty is humbling. It makes me feel so insignificant, but at the same time help me to appreciate how significant is our creator. When we got back to Te Anau we asked about a dinner place and were told about several but, settled on a place called The Fat Duck. David had the whole snapper, and I had the leg of lamb. We shared and both were excellent, as was the NZ Pinot Noir I had. We got to bed early but had difficulty getting to sleep. We another big day planned so we wanted a good start.
