Day 1 Auckland

We arrived in Auckland about 6AM. I was over a 12 hour flight, and we crossed the international dateline so Tuesday was lost to us somewhere over the Pacific. It kinda makes you feel like you are in a episode of "Lost".

I was happy we were able to get a little sleep so we wouldn't feel wasted In Auckland since we only have a day here. As soon as we got checked in we went out and found breakfast at a nice little cafe just up from the Copthorne Hotel where we are staying. David had the "French Toast" which was nicely presented with a berry base, and a slice of Canadian bacon on top and surrounded by fried bananas. The people a Copthorne, especially Kelly was very helpful with directions, taking care of our luggage and getting us checked in by 9:30.

We cleaned up and went out to explore downtown Auckland. We could see the Sky Tower from our hotel room and decided to head toward it. On the way we passed by the lovely downtown campus of The University of Auckland. We walked through pretty Albert Park. We kept getting different views of the tower. The tower is 60 stories tall and they have a ride called"Sky Jump" which is a 630' cable controlled base jump, where you freefall to within a few feet of the ground.

Auckland is almost surrounded by water and a highlight of our day was the waterfront area home to more pleasure boats per capita than any city in the world. We had a nice lunch at one of the many waterfront restaurants on the harbor. I had scallops for the first time that included the roue. I liked the scallops better than the roue.

We plan to get a good nights sleep for tomorrow we ride.
